Brig. Ravi Palsokar (Retd.), born in 1943, is a prolific author who writes in English and Marathi. He attended Balmohan Vidya Mandir in Mumbai and Sherwood College, Nainital, before joining the Indian Army in 1962, following training at NDA and IMA. He served in the 2nd Battalion, Brigade of The Guards (1 Grenadiers), a legacy continued by his son, Brig. Dhananjai.
Brig. Palsokar commanded 7 Infantry Brigade during the IPKF operations in Sri Lanka from 1987 to 1989, recording his experiences in his memoir, Ours Not to Reason Why. He has also written the history of 63 Cavalry and various unpublished military histories. His Marathi articles have been compiled into Bharatacha Ashant Shejar. He is deeply respected for his contributions to military literature, offering invaluable insights into India's defense history.
He resides in Pune with his wife of 56 years, Vilol, and enjoys time with his children and grandchildren, cherishing family bonds that span generations.
